In a report we posted a few weeks ago, it is rumored that Mortal Kombat XI is officially in development and possibly quite far a long, with additional language voicing taking place now. Building off of that, it now seems like we might be seeing the storied fighting series official announce its newest entry very soon.
In a 4chan post, a user claiming to be a QA tester with NetherRealm Studios has stated that Mortal Kombat XI will be unveiled to the world at the upcoming Game Awards 2018 show on Thursday, December 6th. He is quoted as providing the following information, verbatim:
>reveal in vga
>it will have 4 years of dev cycle (1 year concept 3 year full development) longest to date.
> concepting actually even started while making MK X. They were always thought back to back games in terms of story
> It has proper adventure mode , new version of Shaolin Monks type of gameplay. pretty big deal , you can play and customize your character in this mode, lots of items for customize weapons etc shit too. Also boxes (daily, buyable etc..)
>adventure mode is 2 player co-op , online or single. drop in drop out
> Story mode and adventure are different both are included. story mode is normal NRS game style.
> story evolve about 3 main character
> punishing raiden ; hes now punishing anyone trying to even dare to attack earthrealm
> emperor liu kang and empress kitana ; preparing army and trying to find something of stone left from ages of those deity gods in MK universe(cant remember names elder god or something)
> Shang Tsung and Reiko they made deal with Kotal Kahn to protect and rule outworld security , reiko has it’s own agenda though gets killed middle of it.
> uses UE4 instead of UE3 like all other games of NRS
> animation cancel its actually not a.cancel but something of pseudo of it. Much as you can expect from a western company i guess looks infinitely better than MKX in terms of animations. Something similar to UMK3
> fujin is playable character
> johnny cage,goro,sonya,kano,baraka,mileena,ferratorr %100 not playable
That’s a lot of info to unpack, and a lot fo it would align with the development timeline that is rumored to be with the game. One of the biggest pieces of information to come out of this “leak” is the supposed return of an adventure-style mode of play, similar to the Konquest mode found in the fan-favorite entry Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. While a traditional story mode will still remain, the adventure mode will allow players to completely customize their character in a multitude of ways, similar to that of an RPG.
The last release in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat X, was released in April 2015, to an swell of positive reviews. The game has stopped receiving DLC content since 2016’s release of Mortal Kombat XL, which includes all downloadable content available with the title.
With the Game Awards 2018 only five days away, fans of the series may not have wait much longer until they can hit their friends with the patented Scorpion chain again.
