Rocksteady Studios, the development team behind the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, have been laying pretty low over the past few years, but have confirmed that they have a project in the works. We reported a few weeks ago that another Warner Bros studio, WB Games Montreal, may be showing an upcoming DC game to the press currently, but it looks like Rocksteady may be ready to speak on their new game as well; and it may just feature one of DC Comics’ greatest heroes.
First noticed by Reset Era user ‘est1992‘, a listing for a game developed by Rocksteady Studios entitled Superman: World’s Finest appeared on the site Game System Requirements. The site, which is primarily a hub for users to check what specifications a computer needs to run certain games at certain levels of quality, doesn’t provide an option for users to upload games to the site, giving it a little more credence to he possible listing. Est1992 also noted that the site also listed the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 a month before it was officially revealed.
While there is much to be skeptical around the post, some suggest that the site may pull from a Steam database that holds code and information surrounding current and future games on the storefront. It’s also not unfathomable to think that the site acts like other various outlets, and will list rumored games at times, if they are lead to believe something will be announced soon, giving them a jump on posting about it.
Superman has had his fair share of struggles making the leap to the gaming medium, with most games focused on him receiving poor responses from both fans and critics alike. The most infamous entry, Superman for the Nintendo 64 (1999), has been at times hailed the ‘worst game of all time‘.
Not all hope is lost for the Son of Krypton and his gaming escapades. Rocksteady, who has received praise for its handling of the Batman license, has shown both comic and gaming fans their ability to handle super heroes in a 3D space, all while incorporating smooth and fluent combat mechanics. Rumors of Superman: World’s Finest started picking up earlier this year, surrounding the possibility of the game being presented at E3 (included the supposed leaked marketing material shown below). Unfortunately, Rocksteady released a statement after the popular gaming and entertainment expo, saying the understand fans disappointment surrounding their absence, but wanted to deliver a game game said fans would be proud of; alluding that more would be shown soon.
With the Game Awards getting set to air next Thursday, December 6th, could we bet set to see the reveal of Rocksteady’s next project? We will have to tune in to see!
